Ferrondo – Round baskets
The natural protection system
A „Gabion“, also called round basket or wire basket is a basket made from wire which is filled with stones and can be used for outdoor installations by landscape architects and in connection with roadway and pathway construction, for the construction of walls or the erection of fences, noise reduction barriers, supporting walls and to provide additional support where there are steep hillsides or slopes.
Gabions are primarily used as capture components on hillsides (e.g. at roadsides) to combat horizontal earth pressure. The implementation of gabions is usually a cost efficient alternative to the use of fixed products or monolithic concrete walls.
Gabions are also used as noise reduction barriers in residential areas and on roads with heavy levels of traffic. When covered off with earth, they provide greenery along noise reduction walls and provide a place to inhabit for microbes.
Low production costs and good cost effectiveness.
In contrast to rectangular basket systems no reinforcement is required. This enables a quick and easy fill. The results are reduced production costs through filling by means of machines. Through the self-reinforcement effect, the round baskets have no need for tension anchors. There is also no need for foot or head grids. In this way the result is a homogenous structure across the total height, that meets all static requirements.
